The Lucerne–Lake Lucerne region delights visitors with a wide range of accessible attractions that are easily accessible to everyone. Majestic mountains such as the Rigi and Pilatus offer comfortable train journeys and low barrier-free experiences at lofty heights. Fascinating museums invite visitors on cultural journeys of discovery and ensure a relaxed and enjoyable visit.
Nature lovers and those seeking relaxation will also find plenty to enjoy: the Nature Reserve and Wildlife Park Goldau boasts easily accessible paths and fascinating wildlife viewing, whilst the Mineralbad & Spa Rigi guarantees relaxing wellness moments in a low-barrier environment.
And this is just the beginning – the region has many more memorable highlights that are easy and comfortable to access.
The accessible path from Weggis to Hertenstein runs gently along the shore of Lake Lucerne for around 2.5 kilometres. The wide, well-maintained walking path is ideal for wheelchairs and pushchairs and offers wonderful views of the Rigi, Pilatus and the Uri Alps along the way. Numerous seating areas and quiet stretches of the lakeside invite you to take a relaxing break.
Those who prefer a longer walk can start in Vitznau. The section from Vitznau to Weggis runs partly along the main road and significantly extends the walk – ideal for anyone looking for a bit more exercise. Total length: 8 kilometres.
Once you arrive in Hertenstein, you can enjoy the peace, nature and holiday atmosphere on the idyllic peninsula. At the charming Café Vienna, right next to the boat station, a selection of delicious cakes and fine coffee awaits you. For the return journey, you can then travel comfortably by boat back to Weggis or Vitznau – a lovely way to round off a nature-filled excursion. With the exception of the MS Rütli, all SGV boats are wheelchair accessible.
The excursion to Rigi Kaltbad combines nature experiences with peace and relaxation. Shortly after arriving on the car‑free sun terrace, a comfortable, well‑developed path leads to the Känzeli, one of Rigi’s most beautiful viewpoints. The walk is short, almost level and ideally suited for wheelchair users, families with strollers and anyone looking to enjoy a relaxed stroll in the fresh mountain air.
At the Känzeli, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over Lake Lucerne, the Alps and the bay of Lucerne – a tranquil place that invites you to linger. The return walk follows the same easy route back to Rigi Kaltbad.
The perfect way to round off the day is a visit to the Mineralbad & Spa Rigi Kaltbad. This barrier‑free wellness facility offers soothing indoor and outdoor pools filled with warm mineral water, peaceful relaxation areas and a unique atmosphere in the heart of the mountains. An ideal way to extend the excursion before heading back down the mountain.

Round‑trip tip: Travel by boat to Vitznau and take the cogwheel railway up to Rigi Kaltbad. For the return journey, take the cable car from Rigi Kaltbad to Weggis and continue by boat.
On Mount Rigi, a JST Multidrive with a powerful electric motor can be rented, allowing wheelchair users to explore the “Queen of the Mountains” up close.

Travelling via Vitznau is an ideal way to combine a trip to Mount Rigi with a boat cruise. The Weggis-Rigi Kaltbad aerial cableway is also wheelchair accessible. Elevators are available at both the mountain and valley stations, ensuring barrier-free access to the stations.
To ensure a comfortable journey to Mount Rigi, wheelchair users are recommended to register at least one day in advance, either by email ([email protected]) or by phone (+41 41 399 87 87). For passengers using electric wheelchairs, travelling via Vitznau is recommended.
