Sustainable Tourism

The Weggis Vitznau Rigi holiday region is devoted to the sustainable development of tourism, optimising its own organisation while promoting natural and cultural attractions for business and leisure tourists. The focus is on creating guest experiences that are appealing, economically beneficial for the region, and as environmentally and socially sustainable as possible.

What is Swisstainable ?

Our nature is our greatest asset. That's why we protect it. With its mighty mountains, turquoise-blue lakes and enchanted forests, Switzerland is a unique travel destination. Our nature provides energy - and it must stay that way. For us, and for all generations to come.

Swisstainable is Switzerland’s sustainability programme - from tourism for tourism. Its primary goal is the sustainable development of Switzerland as a travel destination. The programme provides orientation and transparency for guests looking for sustainable offers. Already, more than 2,200 tourism businesses participate in the programme and must meet clearly defined criteria. Swisstainable distinguishes between three levels.

Lucerne Tourism  has been awarded Level III - leading, the highest level in the sustainability programme.

Level I – committed

Businesses at Level I commit to sustainable business management and continuously develop their operations towards greater sustainability.

Level II – engaged

Businesses at Level II commit to sustainable business management and continuous improvement in terms of sustainability. In addition, these businesses possess a recognised certification in at least one sustainability dimension.

Level III – leading

Businesses at Level III have a comprehensive, recognised sustainability certification that covers all dimensions of sustainability and is regularly verified by external audits.

Sustainable offers

Barrier-free tourism

The Lucerne-Lake Lucerne region has something for everyone. From the main places of interest to outstanding restaurants and cultural institutions, here we summarise our range of barrier-free activities.

OK:GO Initiative

Weggis Vitznau Rigi is part of the Switzerland-wide OK:GO initiative. Through the OK:GO initiative, the accessibility information of tourism service providers is made available to the public. The aim is to meet the individual needs of a heterogeneous society and to include people with disabilities.

We are part of the Innotour project LUNA

LUNA: Lucerne - becoming more sustainable and successful together

The Innotour project for sustainability transformation and economic valorization in the destination of Lucerne was launched at the beginning of 2024. This project is not focused on the question of "if", but rather on the question of "how" a sustainability transformation can succeed.
