The legendary organ thunderstorms have been heard in the Hofkirche St. Leodegar Lucerne since 1862. Not least thanks to the combined use of the unique rain machine and the monumental façade pipes, the tradition continues to this day. In summer 2025, you will also have the opportunity to experience a 30-minute lunchtime concert with organ thunderstorms in the organ loft on four Tuesdays at 12.15 pm. Afterwards, court organist Stéphane Mottoul will guide you through the organ's remote organ, where you can view the world's only known rain machine from 1862 in the church's attic.
The organ, whose façade dates back to 1640, houses the largest and heaviest organ pipe of its time, which is an impressive 10.7 meters high and weighs 383 kg. With a total weight of an incredible 30 tons and 7374 pipes on 111 stops, it is a truly imposing instrument. At the concerts in the gallery, you can not only see and hear the opulence of the organ, but also feel it and watch the fascinating work of the organist with his hands and feet.
Box office in front of the Hofkirche from 11:30 a.m.
