A unique Dvořák feast. On the one hand there is the relatively rarely heard piano concerto, on the other the popular Ninth, the symphony "from the New World". Although the piano concerto outwardly adheres to the classical structure of three movements, it defied the prevailing zeitgeist of the time. The piano does not play a dominant, highly virtuosic role, full of technical flourishes, but is involved in the development of the themes as an equal partner to the orchestra. A truly symphonic concerto. Dvořák wrote his Ninth in faraway New York, far from his homeland. Was it homesickness that influenced his composition? His commission was actually to write a symphonic work based on American folk music-like melodies. However, Bohemian-Moravian sounds increasingly came to the fore, so it is not surprising that the work ultimately became a magnificent musical hymn to Dvořák's Czech homeland.
