The Rigi is a magnificent natural arena featuring peaks, valleys, alps and pastures, forests, meadows, lakes and imposing rocky slopes. Europe’s first mountain railway, Switzerland’s first mountain inn, nine aerial cableways and cog railways, kilometres of footpaths, barbecue spots, restaurants, hotels, spas and activities, as well as crystal-clear water, fresh air and breathtaking panoramic views make for unforgettable excursions at any time of year. It’s easy: just step out and enjoy yourself.
Nine aerial cableways and cog railways provide access to the imposing Rigi massif, which extends from Küssnacht in the north to Brunnen in the south and on whose southern foot you find the holiday destinations of Weggis and Vitznau.
The local recreational area has a well signposted network of footpaths and offers activities for all ages. Various playgrounds and a rope park are on hand, as are a minigolf course and an alp dairy, where you can watch the cheesemaker at work. Anyone wishing to stay a little longer can make themselves comfortable in one of the hotels or inns and admire the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.
Escape the fog in winter and come up here for some skiing and sledging. If you prefer to take things easy, walking and snowshoeing on the many trails afford plentiful opportunities for admiring the views.
