Holiday region Weggis Vitznau Rigi – directions

Thanks to its central location in the heart of Switzerland, the holiday destination is quick and easy to get to, making it an ideal springboard for excursions into the mountains around Lake Lucerne, as well as to Lucerne, Zurich and the Bernese Oberland – whether by car, boat or bus.

Arriving by public transport

Lucerne benefits from regular, direct rail connections with all the large Swiss cities and major European metropolises. Once in Lucerne, Weggis/Vitznau are a convenient boat ride away, or take the train to Küssnacht am Rigi then the bus for the lakeside municipalities.

Arriving by car

The holiday resorts at the foot of the Rigi are quick and easy to reach by car. Küssnacht am Rigi is on the A4 motorway (Zurich, Lucerne, Basel and Gotthard). From there it's some 10 kilometres to Weggis/Vitznau along the lake.

The Rigi is accessible from Weggis (aerial cableway), Vitznau (cogwheel railway) – or Goldau (cogwheel railway), which also has a mainline railway station.

Arriving by air

There are good rail connections to Lucerne from the international airports of Zurich-Kloten (70 km), Basel (140 km) and Geneva (290 km).

Moving around the holiday region

As the distances involved are relatively short, getting around the Lake Lucerne Region is easy – by boat, bus, train, car, bicycle or on foot.
